Finding your Personal Wants
What is this tutorial about, you ask? Have you ever done something and regretted it? Have you ever found yourself in a gap that you want to do two things, many things, or a whole new idea? Did you ever find yourself saying that you added and removed from your site and you think that it still misses something, most likely something unique? This tutorial will teach you how to decide on which thing is which.
Graphics site, Games site, Etc.? Which One?
This question is one of the most haunted questions in webmasters / webmistresses. What do you want your site to give? Do you want a graphics site, gaming site, personal site, resource site, or
something totally different? Here are ways to find out what you want:
- Do you really want the site type your picking?
- Will you be dedicated to your site?
- Do you enjoy editing and adding things to this type of site?
- Are you satisfied with that you currently have?
- Do you feel like your site has a lot of things that you could add to make it improve?
- Do you like your site and enjoy it?
It is important to like what you do. Don't just do your site because you are forced to do it, or because you just want to keep it up.
I can't leave you behind
Some people have this problem. Did you ever get tired of your current site's topic, and want to change it? For example, lets say someone has a Pokemon site, and after
lets say five to six years, they lost interest in Pokemon and wanted to do something else, lets say Sonic or anything else. Its really hard to give up your old site, because you've gone
through many memories with it. Here is the list of things that you must think about before changing your site's subject. Remember, changing a site's subject is a big deal!
- Do you feel like you are forced to add things to your site?
- Do you still enjoy making content for your current site?
- Do you like your visitor's discussions that relate with your site?
- Do you want to affiliate with other sites that have nothing to do with your site's subject, and you still love them?
- Do you want to keep your current site?
Another thing you could do is redirect your old domain to the new one, or let your old domain become a hosting site. That way, you can benefit from both sites :D
My site is not unique
Every site is unique! Its true that most, lets say, Pokemon sites and gaming sites, offer the same game info and such, but each one has different content and opinions. True that
sometimes you want to create something totally new that no one ever thought about, so here is a few things to remember:
- Does the thing represent who you are or what you like?
- If you come up with something unique, do you even like it, or did you just make it to be unique?
- Do you think that there is a possibility that people do not share your likeness to this unique thing?
- Is this unique thing really what you want?
Don't do something unique just because its unique, but because you enjoy it and like it <3
I want to remove this and that
Most webmasters / webmistresses go through the phase of wanting to remove many things from their site that they think do not meet the qualifications of what their visitor wants.
However, they actually enjoy doing the thing, or hate it. Here are a few things you could do with content that you do not want to update while your visitors want it:
- Make a special page just for that content and put everything that you do not want there, so that visitors can use it, and you do not need to update it.
- Make a sub mini site under your domain for your old content, and update it whenever you like. Like an Archive site.
- Ask your visitors whether they even still want to use and benefit from your content.
Remember, its what you like!Overall, do what you want!
Don't be afraid of making decisions! However, think it over before making a tough decision as you might regret it later!
